Vivekananda Kendra
A spiritually oriented service mission.

Swami Vivekananda with intense love for his motherland wandered all
over the country. He came to Kanyakumari and sat on the mid-sea rock on 25th, 26th and 27th December 1892, meditating on India's past, present and future. It was on this rock that he discovered the mission for glorious India and later shook the world by speaking about India's spirituality.

On this sanctified place, Mananeeya Ekanthji Ranade, with the participation of millions of people of India, constructed Vivekananda Rock Memorial, which symbolizes the glorious mission of India as seen by Swami Vivekananda in his meditation.

Swami Vivekananda had envisaged, “A hundred thousand men and women, fired with the zeal of holiness, fortified with eternal faith in the Lord, and nerved to lion’s courage by their sympathy for the poor and the downtrodden, will go over the length and breadth of the land, preaching the gospel of salvation, the gospel of help, the gospel of social raising-up, the gospel of equality. “

Mananeeya Ekanathji wanted to fulfill this vision of Swami Vivekananda. Therefore, as a second phase, he founded Vivekananda Kendra - a spiritually oriented service mission – in 1972 as the living memorial to Swami Vivekananda comprising of a cadre of dedicated Jeevanvrati s , Sewavratis and Vanaprasthis, thousands of local karyakartas and lakhs of patrons and well wishers. Vivekananda Kendra is centered on the noble thought “Service to man is service to God” – Swami Vivekananda said, “If you can not worship your brotherman, the manifested God, how can you worship a God who is unmanifested.” - and is guided by the national ideals – RENUNCIATION & SERVICE. At present it has 205 branch centres and projects all over India working with the twin objectives of MAN-MAKING and NATION-BUILDING.

"Each Nation has a destiny to fulfill, each nation has a message to deliver each nation has a mission to accomplish. Therefore, from the very start, we must understand the mission of our own race, the destiny it has to fulfill, the place it has to occupy in the march of nations, the note it has to contribute to the harmony of races."
